O God, on this day You once taught the hearts of Your faithful people by sending them the light of Your Holy Spirit. Grant us in our day by the same Spirit to have a right understanding in all things and evermore to rejoice in His holy consolation; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
The Word of God is bound; we may know it only in Jesus. But to those who have not heard or understood, we are the hands and feet of the gospel, unbinding its proclamations--its life--to hungry hearts and needy souls.
"I just wanna be a sheep, baa...baa, baa...baa." But sheep are dirty, dumb, and troublesome animals. Yet this is what we are. Praise the LORD, for He is the Good Shepherd, despite our sin and shame; our weak and foolish hearts.
Who's in charge? By the authority of His death and resurrection, Jesus has become first in all things, of whom all of Scripture speaks. The Gospel wipes our sins away--without a trace--and as we have freely been given, by His authority we also freely give.
Our joy is grounded in the fellowship of all believers, as we share in the breaking of bread and the gifts which God offers to us for our benefit. God has revealed Himself in His Son, in whom we have joy and stand in awe.
